The Ferrari Dino name represents Ferrari's rear-wheel drive, mid engine mass produced sports cars that do not have a V12 in them. Enzo created the sub-brand because he didn't want non V12 cars to be considered equally with the prancing horses. He named the denomination Dino in honor of his son that passed away from muscular dystrophy in 1956. His son, Alfredo, helped design the V-6 engine for racing alongside the lead engineer, Vittorio Jano, whom together created an engine that won Ferrari a Formula 1 championship in 1958, 2 years after Alfredo's passing.
To generate more income, Enzo decided to "mass" produce a homologation version of the Dino and sell it to the public. The only catch however, was that Enzo would not sell it to the public unless it had a smaller, less-powerful engine compared to the race car version because he didn't think his customers possessed the ability to drive a mid-engine car without getting into too much trouble. The 195 horsepower 246 GTS was created shortly after the 206 GT models were built because Ferrari decided they needed to increase the engine's displacement from 2.0 to 2.4 liters.
Ferrari Dino - The Process
This 1974 Ferrari 246 GTS has around 22,000 miles and was in dire need of a paint correction and polish. We performed a full Ceramic Pro Gold Package and revived this legendary Ferrari. The Ceramic Pro Gold Package is an intricate, multi-stage process that takes at least a week to complete.
Ceramic Pro is a clear, liquid nano-ceramic coating. When cured, this technology will chemically bond, transforming itself on the surface to become a rigid, super-structure of nano-glass, protecting the substrate it is applied to indefinitely. The nano-ceramic glass coating forms an exceptionally strong and durable shield, resistant to solvents, acids, alkalis, UV rays, harsh weather conditions and corrosion.
Once the coating is applied you will see ultimate gloss and color depth, incomparable to anything else. The slickness of the coated surface does not allow dirt, brake dust and tar to stick to your car’s paint, wheels or glass. The coating is so slick and resistant to chemicals that contaminants can be removed with less aggressive and damaging wash methods. All Ceramic Pro coatings require a yearly maintenance at a certified Ceramic Pro dealer to keep the Ceramic Pro warranty active. During these maintenances we deep clean the vehicles inside and out as well as boost the coatings previously applied.
Step 1: Detailing Prep
First we perform a thorough wash of the vehicle, detail the wheels, and clean the glass.
Then we perform a clay bar to the paint, decontaminating it. After that step we perform a 1 step polish on the paint to start working down the scratches. This is done with a heavy cut pad and heavy cut compound. Following this, more passes are made on the paint with a lighter buffing pad and light compound to remove the last of the swirls and scratches. After the initial one step polish we perform a multi-stage dual action compound and polish. Wash lines reduces & marring eliminated, increasing the depth of the paint and leaving us with a smooth, prepped surface ready to receive Ceramic Pro. In this step we also perform a detailed interior touch up, leather conditioner and interior glass cleaning.
Step 2: Ceramic Pro
With a prepped surface we begin the lengthy process of applying 5 layers of Ceramic Pro on every single panel of paint on the vehicle. This includes allocating time to let panels cure and working in a rotation throughout the car. We also apply apply one layer of 9H on the wheels.
Optionally we can perform a full interior coating, protecting the interior of your vehicle. We also offer an in-depth wheel package where we remove the wheel, deep clean the wheels as well as the calipers, and apply multiple coatings to the inner barrel, face of the wheels and brake calipers.
The full process took over 60 hours of work from paint preparation to the final top coating. The owner was ecstatic when he picked up his car and saw the massive transformation. It's hard to even tell that its the same car. Almost all of the swirls were gone and the car is now protected from dirt, brake dust, tar, or any other contaminants.
